Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport the two winners said it was one of the toughest races they ran this year so far. They told Sedibeng Ster Sport it was not as easy as they thought it would be, especially when they approached the finishing line. However, they did mention they came well prepared for this race knowing they would compete against the best in the country.

“It was a very close contest with number two and three close on my heels from the beginning until the finishing line. I must say, they gave me a run for my money,” said Sibeko.

Megoe, who set the pace from start to finish told Sedibeng Ster Sport that the race went as she planned. She said the race was highly tactical with all the runners setting a high standard throughout the race.

“I’m excited for winning the race, but I must also give credit to those two ladies who came behind me because they pushed me very hard. They were there behind me from the start,” said Megoe.

Oliphant hailed this year’s marathon as a great success.

“We want to thank everyone who made this event a great success especially our stakeholders together with our sponsor Rand Water. Congratulations to all the winners. We wish them all the best, especially those who have qualify for the Comrades Marathon,” he said.
