ORANGE FARM – The police in Orange Farm have nabbed a suspect following a truck hijacking and kidnapping incident along the R28.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane reports that the truck driver was driving along R28, when he was stopped by marked police Nissan bakkie.

“The driver states that upon stopping, he was approached by unknown people wearing police uniform. They told him to check underneath the truck and afterwards left. As he was busy checking, a private vehicle stopped next to him, and the driver of that vehicle approached him with the intention to assist him.

“The passenger of the same vehicle approached him with a firearm in his hand and instructed him to get inside the private car. The driver complied. Upon entering the private vehicle, his hands were tied with his shoe laces and he was blindfolded with a jersey. They searched all his pockets and took all the cash in his possession.”

Mokhachane states that the suspects drove with the truck driver a few minutes and stopped at an unknown location.
“One of the suspects made a phone call to an unknown person, and afterwards they drove for a few minutes. When they stopped for the second time, one of the suspects removed the jersey that was used to blindfold the victim.

“The victim noticed that the suspect who was a passenger, was no longer the same suspect. They dropped him at an unknown location in Orange Farm and drove off with the truck and the goods that were loaded in the truck.”

Mokhachane reports that police worked tirelessly and managed to arrest one of the suspects.

Investigation is still ongoing, and authorities will continue to search for other suspects involved in this case.

Major General Nkhensani Lemba commended the members for a job well done and believes that the arrest of the suspect will assist in leading to the arrest of the other suspects.
