Tragic end to search for missing man

Sebusi went missing on May 17 after telling his family that he was going on a trip to Durban. The family suspects his disappearance is connected to a Road Accident Fund ((RAF) payout he received days earlier.

SEBOKENG – The family of Missing Teboho Sebusi (30) from Boitumelo says they are now at peace following the discovery of his body after searching for him for three months.

Sebusi went missing on May 17 after telling his family that he was going on a trip to Durban. The family suspects his disappearance is connected to a Road Accident Fund ((RAF) payout he received days earlier.

Speaking to Sebusi’s family following the discovery of his body, they stated that trouble started after Sebusi received his payouts.

“When we found out that he had received his payouts, we advised him not to draw too much attention to himself. He promised us he would not do that but we suspect he got too excited about the money.”

“We have been praying, hoping for him to return to us. We are now at peace knowing that we will lay him to rest and get closure. We are deeply saddened by what has happened and we hope that one day justice will take its course.”

The family filed a missing person’s case docket at Sebokeng SAPS in May. The family said they were called to identify the body.

“We could recognize him by his clothing and his tattoos. Sadly, his body had begun to decompose because he had been missing for a long time.”

Sebusi’s body was found floating in a river at Jorita Farm near Swinburn District in Harrismith. Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring confirmed that an inquest case docket had since been launched.

“The deceased was identified by the clothing he wore on the day that he has been missing,” Mophiring said.
Sebusi was laid to rest over the weekend.
