Newborn baby discovered at Polokong open veld

POLOKONG – The community of Polokong was recently shocked by scenes of a lifeless body of a newborn baby boy that was found dumped in an open veld.

The incident happened on August 21. Police and Emergency Personnel were called to the scene by members of the community after the body was discovered.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, angry members of the community condemned the incident, saying that the mother should have rather given the child to someone who would take care of him or sought help from local organisations.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane confirmed the incident.

“The Sebokeng police are investigating a case of concealment of birth after a lifeless body of a newborn baby was found on the outskirts of Polokong. The police were busy searching for a missing person in the area when they were called by the community members, alleging that they found a body of a newborn on the dumping site.

“Emergency Medical Services (EMS) confirmed at the scene that it is a newborn boy and he was taken to Sebokeng Government Mortuary for further investigation.”
