Five foreigners arrested

Five foreign nationals are set to appear at Vereeniging Magistrate Court on different charges, including bribery.

SEDIBENG – Five foreign nationals are behind bars following their arrest on August 20 on charges of possession of an illegal firearm, ammunition, and bribery.

According to the Sedibeng cluster police spokesperson, Captain Teboho Lephoto, their Public Order Police (POP) received a tip-off about foreign nationals having an unlicensed firearm in Orange Farm.

Lephoto said their members followed up on the information and on arrival they searched the premises and found a pistol with ammunition.

“Nobody could account for the firearm or who it belonged to. While our officers conducted their duties, another foreign national came in and tried to offer bribes to the officers. The man was arrested on the spot,” he said.

Lephoto said the arrested suspects were detained and will appear in the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court on August 21.

The acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Mbangwa Nkwashu, applauded the members on their success.

“We commend our members for managing to display the spirit of discipline and character by avoiding the temptation of accepting a bribe. It was a display of honour and we hope that all the members of the district will follow their example,” he said.
