Mazwaizwai team ride for charity

Women’s Day turned into a pedal-powered celebration as the Mazwaizwai cycling team took to the streets in a colorful and spirited ride for charity.

VANDERBIJLPARK – The town was buzzing with excitement as scores of cyclists from the Vaal and beyond geared up and hit the roads for a social ride that was more than just a workout.

The Mazwaizwai team, the new kids on the block in the cycling world, rolled out on a mission to empower women and give back to the community while having a blast.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Mazwaizwai member Chuchi Radebe shared the scoop.

“This wasn’t just a ride; it was a statement! We wanted to show women that cycling is the perfect way to stay fit, feel great, and keep their mental health in check. And what better way to do it than on Women’s Day,” said the vibrant spokesperson.

While dozens enjoyed the thrilling moment, the social ride had a deeper purpose.

The Mazwaizwai team set out to collect 100 dignitary packs filled with essentials like toothbrushes, soap, and sanitary pads, for the students of the Dr Molefi Oliphant Maths, Science & ICT School of Specialisation in Bophelong, Extension 9.

The goodies were split equally between the boys and girls, spreading the love all around.

With over 70 cyclists in total, their families joined in transforming the event into a fun-filled, community-powered celebration that could be felt across the 35km route.

Radebe said the team’s mission to make a splash in the local townships was a smashing success.

“We didn’t just pick a school at random,” Radebe explained.

“Bophelong has a special place in our hearts, and we knew we wanted to make a difference right there. But this is just the beginning, we’re planning to reach even more schools and communities with future rides,” he said.

The Mazwaizwai team partnered with Metro Cycles and Christo Kokkinos, who secured 14 bicycles from the Big Rock Cycling School in Parys.
