Suspected hit-and-run on R59 claims lives of two women

Investigations into a case of culpable homicide is underway following the discovery of two female bodies on the R59 with head injuries and broken legs.

VEREENIGING – Two women in their 30s were found dead on the R59 freeway in Duncanville early Thursday morning.

The gruesome discovery was made around 06:45 when motorists reported the matter to local authorities.

Summoned to the scene, police suspect that the women were victims of a hit-and-run as their bodies were found lying next to each other on the side of the road with severe injuries.

Witnesses reported seeing broken legs and head wounds on the victims, whose shoes were scattered nearby.

Disturbing evidence of brake marks was also noted at the scene.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, the Sedibeng District police spokesperson, Captain Fikile Funda confirmed the tragic incident.

“Police received a complaint of culpable homicide. On arrival, two female bodies were found next to each other with injuries on the heads and broken legs. Visible brake marks were also noticed on the scene and victims’ shoes were scattered across the road,” he reported.

Police have since launched an investigation to uncover the details of this horrifying incident.

“A case of culpable homicide has been opened, and investigations to determine what might have transpired are underway,” Funda added.

Social media went abuzz when a Gift Refilwe shared a video post on the Vaal Notice Board showing the scene.
