BOIPATONG – Thokozile Mavis Mbhele (38) has been sentenced to 15 years of direct imprisonment for the murder of her husband, Basize Innocent Zwezwe.
This decision, handed down by the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate Court, marks the end point of an exhaustive investigation and judicial process.
The tragic incident, which took Boipatong community by shock, occurred on September 17, 2023.
According to police reports, Zwezwe’s lifeless body was discovered at the Boipatong testing ground, hidden away after he had been brutally attacked.
The discovery followed reports of a domestic disturbance, leading investigators to uncover a scene where Zwezwe had sustained multiple stab wounds to his chest.
Boipatong police spokesperson, Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela, highlighted the severity of the crime.
“The deceased, Basize Innocent Zwezwe, was found with several stab wounds. The investigation into this crime underscores our legal system’s dedication to ensuring justice,” said Maxambela.
“While no sentence can undo the harm that has been done, we hope this verdict brings a measure of closure to Zwezwe’s family and friends,” she said.
Maxambela said the conviction and subsequent sentencing of Mbhele were the result of detailed police work and community cooperation.
Warrant Officer Mogajane, along with the members of the Boipatong police force, played a crucial role in piecing together the events that led to Zwezwe’s untimely death.
Boipatong station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Puleng Mokoena, praised the diligence and perseverance of all involved in resolving the case.
“The commitment shown by Warrant Officer Mogajane, our legal professionals, and the community has been instrumental in achieving justice for Basize Innocent Zwezwe. Their hard work and dedication have brought this case to a just conclusion,” Mokoena stated.
