Update: Man killed and woman injured following bike and truck collision in Vanderbijlpark.

UPDATE: Sedibeng Ster spoke to the family of the accident victim this morning, 20 June, and would we would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.

It seems like our reporter did not have a chance to get all the correct facts on the scene. Investigations are still underway and nobody can state clearly how the accident happened as yet.

Any speculations as to who was at fault are currently just that, speculations and we would like to apologise if yesterday’s report didn’t state that clearly.

It has also come to our attention that the deceased was 23 years old and the passenger 39. She is still in hospital, but is doing fine.

Should we receive any new updates, we will keep you posted.

A tragic accident in Vanderbijlpark early today, June 19, resulted in the death of a young man and serious injuries to a young woman, both aged 21.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Westinghouse Boulevard and Barrage Road around 7 a.m.

Eyewitnesses reported that the motorcycle, carrying the two victims, was traveling southbound when it collided with a truck heading west on Barrage Road.

According to the truck driver, who wished to remain anonymous, the motorcycle appeared to be running a red light.

“I had just collected a delivery in the CBD and was heading towards Wadeville,” recounted the driver.

“As I approached the intersection, I saw the motorcycle coming towards me at high speed, seemingly ignoring the traffic signal. I tried to swerve, but it was too late to avoid the collision,” he added.

The young male driver of the motorcycle was declared dead at the scene, while his female passenger was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The accident caused significant traffic disruption as emergency responders, including Gauteng Accident Unit and Vanderbijlpark SAPS traffic officers, worked to secure the scene.

Medics provided immediate care to the injured woman before she was transported to the hospital, and a forensic pathologist arrived to handle the deceased.

Sedibeng Cluster police spokesman, Captain Fikile Funda confirmed that a case of culpable homicide is under investigation.
