Body of man (50) found in veld near Isak Steyl

Sharpeville police are appealing to the public in assisting with identifying a man (50) who was discovered murdered.

SHARPEVILLE. – Sharpeville police are investigating the murder of a middle-aged African man whose lifeless body was found in an open veld opposite the Isak Steyl Stadium, Vanderbijlpark.

According to police spokesperson, Constable Busisiwe Sango, their members were notified of the gruesome discovery on Thursday, June 06.

“Our officers were summoned to the scene after a passerby noticed a man lying motionless on the ground. The victim, estimated to be around 50 years old, was found wearing blue jeans, a white t-shirt, and a pair of black Carvella shoes. Upon closer inspection, officers noted that the man had sustained a fatal stab wound to his chest, inflicted with what appeared to be a sharp object,” she said.

Sango said they [police] identified the deceased as Mr. T.S. Mfene, as indicated by the two bank cards found in his possession.

“However, the exact circumstances leading to Mr. Mfene’s tragic death remain unclear, and the police are seeking any information that could shed light on the incident,” she said.

“At this stage, we are treating this as a murder investigation. We are urging anyone who might have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area, or who knows Mr. Mfene, to come forward or contact D/Sgt Mutlaneng on 081 660 2215.  Any detail, no matter how small, could be crucial to solving this case,” said Constable Sango.
