Missing Kamva (8) found murdered and skinned

In less than 48 hours, a missing eight year old boy from hostel was found dead in Polokong.

SEBOKENG. – The family of Kamva Skhafungana is struggling to deal with his death after the eight-year-old boy’s body was discovered with dried tear stains visible on his face and a wound on his arm in Polokong, Sebokeng just under 48 hours after he disappeared from his home.

His mother Nomagugu (42) said she became concerned when her son did not return at sunset after leaving his home in Hostel One, Sebokeng to play outside on Saturday.

Nomagugu attempted to locate her son on her own by searching the area near their home and checking in with her son’s father and grandmother who lives a block away to find out if he was with them.

Nomagugu said, “When I couldn’t find him, my heart was filled with panic.”

Local Community Policing Forum (CPF) members organised a search party led by Sister Nhlazi, a neighbour of the Skhafungana family.

Kamva’s body was later discovered close to his house when a recycler stumbled across it at a dump site.

“When we heard of a boy found in Polokong we went to check and confirm,” explains Nhlazi while holding a tablet with a photo of the scene where the body was found.

“On arrival, I found the boy [lying] face down with his left arm covering his face. When the police turned him upright, his face had tear marks as though he cried a lot. His right arm was missing flesh as if he was skinned,” she said.

“I can’t find a reason valid enough for anyone to do this to my son. All I wish for is justice to be served,” said a visibly distraught Nomagugu.

She described her son as a bright and loving child.

“Kamva was always happy and loved by many people in the hostel. He was always hands-on, fixing everything and anything in the house. I was devastated by what happened to him,” she said.

Sebokeng police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane said they are investigating an inquest docket to determine the cause of Kamva’s death.
