Another steel scavenger killed by moving truck in Boipatong

A case of culpable homicide has since been opened after a young man was trembled by a moving truck in Vanderbijlpark.

BOIPATONG. – Boipatong has tragically witnessed numerous instances of young men losing their lives due to accidents involving moving trucks.

Last Friday, on April 12, another incident occurred at the intersection of Bouy Louw and Houtkop Road, where a young man involved in steel scavenging lost his life after being struck by a truck.

Sources close to the investigation revealed that the victim and an accomplice had climbed onto a truck transporting soft drinks to a nearby manufacturing depot in Bophelong.

Tragically, during this ride, the victim fell from the truck, leading to his fatal injuries.

Upon returning to the scene, the truck driver discovered the victim covered in foil.

The driver acknowledged seeing the young men between the trucks but continued his delivery route when he could no longer see them in his mirrors.

However, upon his return trip, he noticed police presence and stopped, providing a statement regarding the incident.

The sources mentioned that preliminary investigations by the police indicate that the victim suffered fatal head injuries during the fall.

This recent tragedy echoes a similar incident that occurred two months ago outside Cape Gate, where another steel scavenger lost his life after being crushed by a truck’s wheels.

Sergeant Thembeka, the police spokesperson for Boipatong, confirmed that they are treating this case as a culpable homicide and are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the young man’s death.
