Swinging for charity

Prof Ndlovu shared his vision of elevating VUT’s status and its impact on addressing socioeconomic challenges in the Vaal region.

VEREENIGING. – The day of the Vaal University of Technology (VUT)’s 2024 Alumni Fundraising Golf Day began with wet weather and drizzling showers, but it turned into perfect golfing conditions at the Maccaulvei Golf Club in Vereeniging on April 5. The club’s scenic beauty, including excellent greens and fairways, set the stage
for a memorable event.

Organised by the Alumni Relations Department, the Golf Day saw a gathering of VUT alumni, Convocation members, staff golfers, and friends of VUT from various locations such as Durban, Cape Town, Nelspruit, and Mafikeng.

This event brought together distinct stakeholders of the University, with the Vice Chancellor and
Principal, Professor Stephen Khehla Ndlovu, and Chancellor, Mr. Vincent Zwelibanzi Mntambo, leading the day’s activities by teeing off.

Nearly one hundred golfers showcased their skills across the course, all in support of a noble cause. The event also saw the presence of members from the university Council and the management committee (ManCom).

Peter Masombuka, Head of Alumni, highlighted that the event’s proceeds would benefit two of the university’s charity projects: the VUT Poverty Alleviation Project and the Phakamisi Ikhaya Nutrition Campaign.

He expressed gratitude to sponsors, partners, and participants, emphasising how their contributions would
positively impact student development through mentorship, coaching, seminars, workshops, and guest lectures.

During the prize-giving ceremony, Prof Ndlovu shared his vision of elevating VUT’s status and its impact on addressing socioeconomic challenges in the Vaal region.

Mr. Mntambo echoed these sentiments, urging alumni to play an active role in the university’s growth and encouraging the publication of alumni testimonies to celebrate their experiences and achievements.

The Vice Chancellor and Chancellor expressed their satisfaction with the event’s success and the connections forged among alumni and business stakeholders, highlighting the importance of ongoing support for VUT’s advancement.
