Mercy, a radio broadcaster with many caps

Popularly known as Mercy Makola, Mohau Lethoko shares his radio love story with Ster.

VANDERBIJLPARK – Mohau Lethoko, aged 29, is a multifaceted individual with a diverse skill set. Beyond his role as a radio broadcaster at VUT FM, he is also actively involved in marketing, corporate training, and entrepreneurship.

In an interview with Sedibeng Ster, Lethoko recounted his journey into radio, which began in 2013 during
his first year as a Tourism Management student at Vaal University of Technology.

He expressed his longstanding passion for radio and his desire to use the medium as a platform to assist and connect with people.

However, Lethoko admitted that despite his success and popularity in the industry, he faced personal challenges, including depression, in 2016.

Struggling to make ends meet and facing financial instability, he persevered through difficult times, often
sacrificing his own well-being for the sake of his career.

Despite the challenges, Lethoko credited the support and kindness of individuals like Bra Tumi, who provided him with transportation to the studio free of charge, and Israel Mosehla, who offered encouragement and
assistance during his struggles.

Their support enabled him to overcome his obstacles and continue pursuing his passion for radio.

Reflecting on his journey, Lethoko  acknowledged the hardships but remained deeply committed to his craft, emphasising his enduring love for radio despite the challenges he faced along the way.
