POPs emerge victorious after beating Vereeniging LCRC in the finals

POPS took the cup after beating Vereeniging LCRC in the final game of Sedibeng Police Soccer League.

VANDERBIJLPARK – Public Order Police (POPs) won against Vereeniging LCRC with a loud one-nil victory in the final match of the SAPS Soccer League.

The electrifying showdown took place at Isak Styl, leaving spectators on the edge of their seats as the two teams battled for the number one spot.

Known for their unwavering commitment to maintaining public order, POPs showcased a different form of skill on the soccer field, demonstrating teamwork, and resilience.

Despite facing a difficult opponent in Vereeniging LCRC, the POPs squad remained undiscouraged, determined to clinch the title.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster,  POPs Coach, Sergeant Tumelo Mathonsi they are overjoyed after winning the league.

“We are happy to have won the game, although this was a very hard and hectic game. We applied more effort this game compared to the last which we won on penalties. We are over the moon,” he said.

Mathonsi said determination and discipline work wonders for many teams, and they are ready to apply such to remain at the top of the police soccer league log.

Vereeniging LCRC Head coach, Sergeant Peter Khumalo congratulated their rivals, also emphasizing their efforts.

“The match was a very hard one and we lost, however, we played to prove that we could be champs but our rivals continued to stop us from scoring. Our players showed resistance and teamwork, it’s a pity there needs to be one winner. We are going back to the drawing board and coming back even stronger,” he said.

The match was watched by SAPS police leadership who later issued trophies to the winners and all participants of the league.

Addressing the gathered crowds, Sedibeng Commissioner Major General Nkhensani Lemba said “On my arrival, the organizers of this league came to my office to request that we resurrect the beautiful game and I agree. Today we are here to watch the finals. It is exciting to see teams battling in the ground like this and I want to appreciate each one of the participants.”

“We are sleeping on talent and who knows, maybe one day we may produce a team that will represent the Vaal in big leagues,” she added.
