Maseko deserves a Welcome Home party!

"I know there is a budget that is allocated for sports in every municipality."

SEDIBENG.- I am of the opinion that Thapelo Maseko deserves a welcome home party after representing not only Sedibeng but South Africa with distinctions at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Bafana Bafana finished third at this continental tournament and came home with a bronze medal after they beat DRC in the third-place playoffs. Maseko was instrumental to Bafana Bafana’s success at this tournament and even scored his first international goal against Namibia when he came in as a super sub.

I challenge the Sedibeng people particularly our municipality to organise something decent for Maseko. In case, our local municipality is not aware that Maseko is from Sedibeng, I hope by reading here, now, they know he is one of our own.

He was the only player from Sedibeng who was part of the Bafana Bafana team that made our country proud at AFCON by finishing third place in the tournament and producing a five-star performance for our national team.

As the region, we must take pride in our own and acknowledge those individuals who hoist our flag high.. Even before the tournament, we were supposed to organise a farewell party for Maseko.

We must be proud of our own and acknowledge them if we have to so that they can feel that they are appreciated. Maseko and other youngsters who have put this region on the world map in sports must be recognised for their achievements.

As a region, we must make it a habit to recognise our athletes whenever they achieve something in sports to motivate the coming generations.

I am sure that the municipality has such a budget to organise such events in honour of our athletes, I stand to be corrected, but I know there is a budget that is allocated for sports in every municipality.

Whoever is reading this, please convey this message to the powers that be, and beg them to organise a welcome party for Thapelo Maseko.

Organising such an event to acknowledge this young man is never too late!
