Emotional send-off for slain 21-year-old

SHARPEVILLE. – Brutally killed Bongiwe Mntshange was laid to rest last week in an emotional send off.

Mntshange’s life was celebrated by loved ones, church members and the community at large.

Mntshange’s decomposing body was discovered by passersby in an open veld in Tshepiso. She was found half naked and badly assaulted. Many people who spoke during her funeral ceremony asked for justice to be served.

They said that her murder raised questions about the safety of women and children in the community. Speaking during the ceremony, 48-year-old Arch Bishop Sibusiso Nkohla said the church saw the importance of giving Bongiwe a befitting send-off as she was somebody who loved church.

Bongiwe’s inconsolable mother, Lindiwe Mntshange said all she wants is that her daughter’s killer be brought to book and for justice to prevail.

Speaking to Ster North, police spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela said the investigation had changed from that of an inquest to murder after the postmortem results.

“The murder investigation is underway. No arrests have been made at this point but police are working tirelessly.”

Maxambela further asks members of the community with any information pertaining the incident to contact the investigating officer, Captain Mokgotu on 016 930 23 28.
