Zondo embarks on reviving development league in Emfuleni areas

“I’m happy to hear that some of the teams that were part of our junior league structure in the past are coming back to be part of our development league."

SEBOKENG.- The Emfuleni Local Football Association (ELFA) Head of Development, Master Zondo is embarking on reviving the junior league in some of Emfuleni’s areas.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Zondo said some of the areas that they wanted to revive the junior league are Vanderbijlpark and Vereeniging. With the junior league set to kick off on April 6 for the 2023/2024 season, Zondo urges the teams to pay their affiliation fee.

He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that the process to register the players had already started on February 2. He further said that the new window transfer registration set by MYSAFA will run for 90 days, it will open on March 1 and close on May 30.

“There is a serious need to revive junior league in the above-mentioned areas. In the past, these two areas formed part of the junior league with white teams from white communities like Saints being part of the ELFA junior league structures. This is good news because we want to see the junior league play all over the Emfuleni areas.”

“We all know the history of our football, that in areas like Vereeniging football was played every weekend, especially junior soccer league. We invite all the teams that are interested in being part of the league to come forward. The aim is to see football being played by the poor of the poorest communities and in the suburbs or white communities,” said Zondo.

Zondo is convinced that this season they will attract more junior teams to participate under the ELFA league structure, especially in the areas that have been inactive for the past five years.
