Social media does a lot of damage to our football

What needs to be done seeing that our football is going to the dogs in the name of social media?

SEDIBENG.- I’m of the opinion that social media is doing a lot of damage to our football.

TOUCHLINE is concerned about how social media is destroying our football.  Lately, you hardly read anything positive about our football on social media platforms especially when it comes to Bafana Bafana. For example, there is this ongoing debate about Mamelodi Sundowns’s players being selected for Bafana Bafana in numbers, especially after our loss against Mali.

It was like Sundowns players were responsible for the defeat but after our game against Namibia, it was a different tune altogether. This is a serious concern because there is no more respect for our football. People wake up in the morning and write all the negative stuff about our football without thinking of the implications.

The way things have turned, it is from bad to worse because TOUCHLINE didn’t see anyone wearing a Bafana Bafana jersey on Sunday although the team was playing in the evening. This tells you something about our football, that there is no more respect for our national team.

It is not the case with other national teams because even today people still wear Springboks jerseys. It is a fact since the African Cup of Nations started I have never seen anyone wearing a Bafana Bafana jersey. This is because there is nothing positive that people say or write about Bafana Bafana on social media platforms.

As much as people are entitled to their opinions, TOUCHLINE thinks that some of the opinions are not good for the image of our football. No one is brave enough to speak positively about our football or Bafana Bafana on social media platforms because they are scared to be attacked.

The question is, what needs to be done seeing that our football is going to the dogs in the name of social media users who don’t see anything positive about our football?

The way things are now, club level is more important than our national soccer teams, especially Bafana Bafana. In the past, our national team was a top priority but recently it is all about clubs and to “HELL” with Bafana Bafana.

We are not like other nations who are passionate about their national soccer teams. Here at home, we rubbish our national teams and we use social media to destroy our beautiful game.

This must come to an end if we want to see our national team come against the powerhouses of this world in football.
