MEC Makume embarks on back-to-school drive

Free State MEC for Cooperation Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) and Human Settlements, Ketso Makume, continued his visits to schools in the Fezile Dabi.

ORANGEVILLE – The Free State Human Settlements, and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Ketso Makume is on a back-to-school drive.

According to Makume, the campaign is an initiative taken by the Free State Government to visit schools with the aim of motivating both learners and teachers and also congratulating them on their 2023 achievements.

On Wednesday, January 24, MEC Makume visited Metsimatle Secondary School and Metsimaholo Primary School in Oranjeville.

MEC Makume donated school bag packs to pupils.

In his engagement with teachers, the MEC complimented them on the hard work and dedication they have shown in their profession and the betterment of the children’s lives.

“Please don’t leave this career because we as a country rely on you to mold our kids and help them shape their future, as we may all know, teaching is the mother of all careers,” he said.

Furthermore, speaking to leaders including councilors, SGB members, and community leaders, the MEC encouraged learners to be more dedicated to their studies and stop focusing on things that may ultimately destroy their future like drugs, gangsterism, having sexual relationships with teachers and those who and what they associate themselves with.

Learners, teachers, and parents were also encouraged to build better relationships with each other to help develop the children’s lives easing the burden off teachers.

The MEC also gifted the learners with School backpacks and school shoes as a token of encouragement.

“We are happy with the 2023 matric results and we are very proud of you however this year, we are aiming for a 100% pass rate both from metrics and the grade seven class of 2024.” The MEC concluded.
