Vaal’s finest scores his first AFCON goal

Bafana Bafana will play their last game of their group against Tunisia.

SEBOKENG.- Thapelo Maseko scored his first ever important African Cup of Nation (AFCON) goal when Bafana Bafana beat Namibia 4-0 in a group E match on Sunday night.

This was a must-win game for Bafana Bafana after they lost 2-0 to Mali in their opening group match. The Vaal’s finest came on from the bench and never disappointed as he scored the fourth goal for Bafana Bafana to make the final score 4-0.

It was a different Bafana Bafana performance but with the same players who started the game against Mali having a different attitude on Sunday night. Maseko came when the coach needed him most to finish the game.

It was celebrations all over the Vaal when Maseko found the back of the net from the bench with his families, relatives, neighbours, friends, and former teammates celebrating.

Maseko is the only player from Vaal who has been selected to represent South Africa at this biggest tournament in the African continent. Maseko is one of the best players in the PSL for his club Mamelodi Sundowns. He was also a key figure for Sundowns in the CAF competitions and his hard work has been rewarded with a call-up to Bafana Bafana.

He never disappointed Coach Hugo Broos who had faith in him together with his teammates at Sundowns. Sundowns have 11 players in total at AFCON compared to other African teams. Against Namibia, eight of them started the game with their teammate Peter Shalulile playing for Namibia.

Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana will play their last game of their group against Tunisia today, Wednesday.
