Liyabona is a rose among thorns

Liyabona Tshemese is a top pupil in his school after achieving three distinctions in his subjects.

BOPHELONG – Liyabona Tshemese has a new standard for achievement at Tsolo Secondary School by being the only pupil to earn three distinctions in his matric exams.

The 20-year-old, born and bred in Bophelong, said his success was sheer hard work and dedication.

Despite setting his sights on achieving five distinctions, the young man remains undeterred and is now eagerly looking forward to pursuing a career in the field of science.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster at his family home in Extension XX, said his overjoyed on his accomplishment.

“I was overjoyed when I received the news that I got three distinctions even though I didn’t get the five I expected but I remain proud of myself. I worked hard every day with or without motivation.”

Tshemese said he is hoping to study at Cape Town University and study in science.

“My first option is to study Bachelor of Science majoring in Physics. I have always loved Physics from a very young age. I grew up being motivated by the likes of Isaac Newton by Albert Einstein. Physics is not for everyone hence I want to deal with it,” he said.

Putting relentless effort into his studies, Tshemese said his journey was never enough but he forged on.

With a gleam of accomplishment in his eyes, Tshemese said “Today is a highlight for me. Many things happened during the year while I was going through my matric, but nothing beats seeing my results and how well I worked.”

Mandisi Tshemese grandfather to Liyabona said his a very proud grandfather.

“I am super happy especially because he passed while he was staying with me. Liyabona is a very determined and disciplined child. He never even came home late. He was very strict and always focused on his books, he deserve this accomplishment,” said the old man.
