Law enforcers braved wet and cold weather to combat crime

Despite rain showers and cold weather, different law enforcement agencies took to the streets to fight crime through operation Shanela.

MEYERTON – Different law enforcement agencies comprising South African Police Services, Beast Security, Afri Guard, Midvaal Traffic, Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens, Gauteng Patrollers, and Gauteng Traffic braved cold and wet weather to combat crime during Shanela Operation in Midvaal on Thursday, January 11.

During the operation, a roadblock was set up and patrols were conducted seeing successes and arrests made.

About 7 successful arrests were made and various drugs were seized in some of these cases.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Sedibeng District Police Commissioner Major General Nkhensani Lemba said “Despite the wet and cold weather, we managed [SAPS together with other stakeholders] few successes during the operation. We want to appreciate the community that came onboard to assist and the members that bared the weather conditions to ensure that the people are safe”.

“As we have promised that we have heightened the operation, this is one of many that will be conducted. We call on our people to join our structures. This year we going for AGMs, we need fresh blood to renew our commitment. In different areas we call on business to come onboard as well and support what we are doing,” she said.

CPF Chairman, Rudolph de Wet said “I want to thank each person who participated in the operation. I also want to take the opportunity to thank each Midvaal CPF member who patrols and assists Meyerton SAPS regularly. It truly shows that the Midvaal community takes ownership of safety and participates in cleaning up Midvaal from criminal elements, such as those that introduce our youth to drugs.”
