Mazibuko’s 20 trophies, a motivating story for high school

“I’m over the moon and remains emotional about his awards," said Zelda Mazibuko, mother to Siphosethu.

VANDERBIJLPARK – Siphosethu Mazibuko scooped more than 20 trophies, including the Ambassador trophy at his previous school.

The 13-year-old former head boy at Pinedene Primary School in Vanderbijlpark believes his story is a motivation for his journey ahead as a high school freshman.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster at his family home, Mazibuko shared his story on what drove him and how he looks forward to starting a new year at a new school, with fresh dreams.

“Throughout last year, I participated in multiple Olympiads in different subjects. At each Olympiad, I took first place in my district and received a trophy. I also took part in sports,” he said.

Unpacking his collected accolades, young Mazibuko listed his awards subject by subject.

“I have collected about 20 trophies, medals, and certificates for various including natural, social science, EMS, Mathematics, Technology, Creative Arts and Afrikaans. I also received a sporting award as the Best Batsman of the team and a leadership award as a head boy,” he said.

Asked what he did differently from other pupils, Mazibuko said “What I have what others might lack is ambition. You must always not settle for being average, you must always fight to be better. If I get 80%, I always tell myself that I can do better next time and strive to get a 90%.”
“Prioritizing subjects that give you problems is another way of excelling and becoming better. Technology gave me problems, so I would study it more and in advance,” he said.

Speaking on his anticipation of the awards, Mazibuko said he expected some, although others left him reeling in shock.

Looking forward to the future, Mazibuko said his well-prepared for Grade 8 as he got a proper start at his primary.
“I’ve gotten a substantial head start at Pinedene that I’m positive that will help me conquer the next year. I am expecting more competition as I will be studying with many other dark scholars from different schools,” he said.
Touching on the future aspirations, the bubbly chap said he wants to be a Neurosurgeon.

“I want to also study software development part-time and own different companies while I’m busy with surgeries. Software development has always been my interest and how things work,” he said.

His year as head of our school was marked with many highlights and as a young leader, he has a bright future, which also shines a light on the future of this country.”
