Police continue with crime combating campaigns

Police in Sedibeng District continue to give residents tips on how to keep their money safe while shopping during the festive season.

In a concerted effort to create a safe and secure environment for residents, the police in Sedibeng District through the Safer Festive Season awareness campaign continue in their efforts to curb crime during the festive season.

Members of SAPS in conjunction with the officials from the Department of Community Safety and other stakeholders recently flooded shopping malls and centers within the Evaton and Orange Farms policing precinct to engage with community members on how they can avoid being victims of crime during this season and beyond.

Police spokesperson Constable Tlaleng Moloi reports: “The visit to malls and shopping centers is aimed at raising awareness on crime, and also to increase police visibility over the festive season.”

“We urge shoppers to carry as little cash as possible, not to openly display the money they are depositing while standing in bank queues, be alert when making withdrawals at ATMs, and to not ask for assistance from anyone other than security and consultants working at the bank.”

During the awareness campaign, community members were also urged to remain vigilant, and advised to refrain from buying goods online as they become victims of scams.
