A 38-year-old woman charged with the rape of a 15-year-old girl briefly appeared before the Potchefstroom Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, December 27.
The suspect was arrested by the Potchefstroom Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit on 24 December 2023, at Ouderdorp, outside Potchefstroom.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani says: “The suspect was arrested after she allegedly forcefully shoved a bottle on the 15-year-old girls’ private parts. It is alleged that the suspect and the victim had a quarrel about alcohol and a fight ensued.
“After the incident, the victim was badly injured and admitted to a local hospital.”
The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena was shocked by the incident and instructed the FCS to oppose bail and ensure that justice is served.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Funani said the case had been postponed to January 08, 2023, for a formal bail application.
