Cele urges community to work with police during festive season

Talking about safety on the roads this festive season, Cele said drinking and driving was the cause of many fatalities on the roads.

SEBOKENG. – The Ministry of Police  together with the SAPS management led by National Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola assessed the effectiveness of the SAPS’ Safer Festive Season operational plans put in place in Sedibeng District on Tuesday.

The visits form part of efforts by the SAPS to channel resources to areas where they are most needed. The visit was carried out under the theme “Combating crime through decisive police action and robust community involvement”.

During the visit, the Minister of Police Bheki Cele said it is important to have more police and law enforcement visibility during the festive season. He listed Gauteng among some of the provinces classified as centers of criminality.

Cele said the police would be focusing on the safety of the elderly, women, and children. He said that police should pause everything once a matter about a child or woman is reported.

Cele reiterated that police together with other law enforcement continue in the fight against the scourge of drugs through various operations.

He urged the community to work hand in hand with the police by giving tip-offs about such operations in their communities.

Talking about safety on the roads this festive season, Cele said drinking and driving was the cause of many fatalities on the roads.

“When you drink and drive, when you drink and abuse, when you drink and jay walk it is a problem, and you will find our officers waiting for you.”
