Over 1000 young people attend Midvaal’s youth summit

Human Capital Learning Solutions offered all present young individuals at the summit access to three internationally recognised skills development courses for free.

MIDVAAL. – Over 1000 young people heeded the call to attend Midvaal Local Municipality’s unique Youth Summit. The summit was held at the Midvaal Christian Center on November 17.

The summit is aimed at bringing government services closer to the
people and providing young people with opportunities. The Summit saw participation from young individuals from across the 15 wards of the municipality.

The event was attended by various stakeholders, including government
departments, youth agencies, NGOs, private companies, and higher learning institutions.

The Youth Summit is a response to the Buang Batjha campaign that took place from May to June 2023, featuring extensive participation and public engagements across different communities addressing various societal issues.

The Executive Mayor, Peter Teixeira told the young people that their decision to be present at he summit is a resounding affirmation of their determination to shape a brighter future for themselves and the community.

During the event, SAYouth.mobi, an organization, pledged to hire over 100 young attendees from the summit. These individuals will be placed in various positions, including coding at Early Childhood Development Centres (ECD) and in the field of creative arts. This hiring initiative is in addition to the 291 jobs already provided to young people across the Sedibeng region.

Just Radio, a radio station based in Midvaal, offered internship opportunities to four aspiring young individuals seeking a career in media.

Teixeira will soon announce plans and initiatives from the municipality for youth development.

Their enthusiastic participation and presence at the summit show their determination to build a brighter future for themselves and the community,” Teixeira concludes.
