A feast of goals at Isak Steyl

The visitors showed a never-die attitude until the referee blew the final whistle.

VANDERBIJLPARK.-.  It was feast of goals between Marumo Gallants and Pretoria Callies at Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark on Saturday.

This Motsepe Foundation Championship fixture produced a six-goal thriller. It was goal after goal with Gallants ending up winning the game by 4-2. However, it was not a walk in the park for Gallants as much as the score suggests because the game was closely contested as both sides showed no respect for each other with the home side, Marumo Gallants, looking exciting playing from the back.

Every time Gallants scored, Callies would pull one back, on two occasions until they stretched their lead to 4-2. Despite the Soweto derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates being played on the same day, local soccer fans came in numbers to watch this mouth-watering first-division game. The visitors showed a never-die attitude until the referee blew the final whistle. Callies is fighting for survival at the bottom of the log and this defeat pushed them further deep into relegation.

In another Motsepe Foundation Championship match NB La Masia and Maritzburg United played to a goalless draw at the same venue. This encounter took place on Friday afternoon, and La Masia could have won this game in the closing stages of the game with their opponents’ goalkeeper well beaten but their striker shot straight into his hands.
