Msimanga carries out oversite visits in Midvaal

Some of the sites visited include the Highbury Water Pipeline project, Sicelo Water Reticulation Project and the Risiville Pipeline Water Project.

MIDVAAL. – MPL Solly Msimanga, the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Gauteng Premier Candidate says the Midvaal Local Municipality has made gigantic strides in ensuring that it mitigates water challenges and is able to provide adequate water supply to its residents.

Msimanga was speaking following an oversite visit to MLM to check on infrastructure at various places within the MLM. After attending the briefing by Mayor Peter Texiera, Msimanga accompanied by the MMC of Engineering Cllr Reginald Hubbard escorted the delegation to various sites.

Some of the sites visited include the Highbury Water Pipeline project, Sicelo Water Reticulation Project and the Risiville Pipeline Water Project.

“It is clear that they are planning for the future. Midvaal is planning and building for the next 10 years by creating and implementing their own plan.”

Msimanga stated that while municipalities across the province struggle to receive telemetry data from Rand Water, Midvaal has begun installing live telemetry metres in their reservoirs.
“This monitors the amount of water coming from Rand Water, and allows for adjustment on the side of the municipality when supply is throttled.”

Msimanga said that the municipality has solved their own issues, enabling them to hold Rand Water to account.

“The DA-run Midvaal proves that it is possible to work around the constraints brought on by ineffective state-owned entities. It should, however, not be necessary,” Msimanga stated.

In September, Msimanga led a protest to the headquarters of the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) demanding action on water woes.

“We are here to demand a stop to this shortage and lack of clean water for the people of Emfuleni. The municipality needs to resolve the issue of infrastructure around water.” During the protest, Msimanga stated that the crisis in Emfuleni has been an ongoing challenge, with residents enduring frequent water shortages and poor water quality for an extended period.
