Nelson Mandela Primary School celebrates World Food Day in Style

Nelson Mandela Primary School in Zamdela, Sasolburg, celebrated their World Food Day in style.

SASOLBURG – While the world celebrated World Food Day, Pupils and educators of Nelson Mandela Primary School in Sasolburg took their celebration to a whole new level on Friday, October 20.

The school welcomed a diverse range of visitors and generous donors who flocked to the institution to partake in a day of remarkable festivities.

Excitement was intense as the school’s assembly point was filled to capacity with 1,500 pupils, spanning from Grade R to 7.

To set the mood for the day, a lively school band provided musical entertainment, making sure that the visitors and students alike were in for a treat.

The day began with a flurry of activities that set the tone for the festivities, including cooking demonstrations, captivating performances, and heartfelt expressions of gratitude through speeches from different sponsors.

Nelson Mandela Primary School went all out to make this year’s World Food Day an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

Dancing, musical performances, and a dazzling display by the school’s majorettes were the highlights of the event.

Philile Mkhize a Do More Foundation Hero, shared the enthusiasm behind organizing this exceptional celebration.

In an interview with Sedibeng Ster, she revealed how the day was made truly special, expressing her delight in the participation of the entire school.

“I reached out to the school since they are already in our books on a plan to bring World Food Day to them. We met with the principal and made arrangements to plan for the day. The purpose of the day was to enrich the community by sharing what we have and leaving them with something. We established a food garden to sustain them even after World Food Day.”

Mkhize said “1,640 individuals were fed on the day including teachers, cooking teams and educators and this made me very happy. This is one of my testimonies that God still performs miracles. I am grateful and excited that this day became a success.”

Thabile Chabela, Principal at the school said “It has been a success, we saw a lot of companies coming together to make this day possible. We are grateful to Philile, our Do More hero for making this day happen.”

Some of the sponsors who made the day possible include Checkers, Rainbow Chicken, Midlands meat and Vector  logistics and Boxer Superstore.

Andrew Letebele from Boxer said “This school is named after an icon, a hero who loved children more than anything. We are happy to be part of this prestigious event and we want to thank Do More for organizing such an event.”
