Pheme is a rising gymnastics star

"As a mother, I’m very proud and I will do everything to support her to make her dreams come true.”

SEBOKENG.-  With many young girls from the community participating in netball, Shadii Pheme (12) has chosen gymnastics as her sport.

Sedibeng Ster Sport, recently spoke to this this Zone-6-based young girl who recently brought home gold at Gymnastics National Champions in the Volt Junior category. This Meyerton Primary School Grade 6 learner, is an inspiration to many young people in the community because of her achievement at a very young age.

When she took gymnastics as her first choice sport, little did she know that one day she would be competing on the big stage. She didn’t only make her community proud but also her club, the Meyerton Gymnastics Club that discovered her talent.  Her first competition was back in April 2022 after she joined the club in February, and as they say, the rest is history.

Speaking to her mother, Nomathemba Pheme, said her daughter was born to be a gymnast. She told Sedibeng Ster Sport that when Shadii was still young she would climb on the walls or do some somersaults and she realised that she qualified to participate in gymnastics.

“Look, from a young age, she was flexible, doing some strange things like climbing on walls at home and that is when we realised her potential. I went to google the gymnastics clubs around and I found the Meyerton Gymnastic Club and they said I must bring her. They were very impressed with her talent and after a month she started competing, winning medals.

“I want to thank Stacy Milner for believing in my daughter’s talent and she is very passionate about this sport. My daughter is in the capable hands and I have no doubt that the world is about to witness her talent because of this dedicated coach.  As a mother, I’m very proud and I will do everything to support her to make her dreams come true,” said Pheme.
