When he first made headlines by becoming a part of the CPW, social media platforms were rife with criticism and doubt about his capabilities.

“I started my journey as a member of youth crime prevention desk in 2017 and later elected as the chairperson of the youth desk in general. I was appointed as a Treasurer of the CPF, moved to be a secretary and later joined the Crime Prevention Wardens,” he said.

Mahlatsi said he always wanted to be a teacher, but the growing crime in his community, motivated him to join the youth desk, which saw him becoming a CPW member.

“Crime in Boipatong was a worrying factor for me, and learning there is a youth crime desk, I joined team as a way of fighting the scourge of crime in our community.”

Brought to the awards as a plus-one, Mahlatsi said he was astonished by the surprise call to the stage for his award.

“I wasn’t expecting the award. I was surprised when the MC called my name on the special award and I couldn’t believe it. I can safely say this is God’s work, I never thought I would receive such,” he said.

“This award means I must not give up as you know I trended. I almost gave up, now this award motivates me to work even harder,” he said.

Mahlatsi gave a special tribute to those who supported him through his journey in the crime fighting spectrum.

“Special thanks to Major General Lemba for the award, and I also want to add Seargent Maketekete and Ramakgetheng, not forgetting Colonel Mokoena. If it wasn’t for these individuals I wouldn’t be here,” he concluded.
