BEDWORTH PARK. – The National Association of School Governing Bodies (NASGB) in the Sedibeng District recently organised a highly successful capacity-building training session for members of various School Governing Body (SGB) committees.

This informative session was conducted at Tlhaping Village in Bedworth Park in collaboration with Tsox 4 Change and was skilfully facilitated by the Managing Director, Freddie Tsokolibane, who possesses extensive experience in the realm of public education policy development and implementation strategies.

In an interview with Sedibeng Ster, NASGB Secretary Thabiso Radebe underscored their commitment to upholding their constitution and promoting the principles of good governance within all public schools.

Radebe elaborated on the significance of this training, emphasizing that it equips SGB members with the essential tools necessary for effective school management.

“SGB members often encounter a variety of challenges, including isolated incidents where school managers intentionally undermine the SGB’s authority, thereby preventing them from fulfilling their governance role and fostering transparency,” Radebe noted.

“This training was conducted to remind SGB members of their influential role in steering schools in the right direction. It also addresses issues such as inadequate maintenance of school buildings, which SGBs need to address.”

Radebe emphasized the importance of SGBs mobilizing community members to support and protect schools from physical destruction and to counteract the infiltration of drugs and other harmful substances onto school premises. He highlighted that while schools must maintain a safe and secure environment, their primary focus remains delivering the school’s curriculum.

“In this regard, the NASGB is committed to preparing every parent to be better equipped to navigate the dynamic challenges within the school environment,” Radebe added.

The workshop concluded with a certificate presentation to SGB members who successfully completed financial training, further enhancing their capacity to contribute positively to their respective schools’ governance.
