Sedibeng hots DDC game between Amazulu and Sekhukhune United

"I was really happy with how they played even though we started the game on the back foot."

SEDIBENG.- Sedibeng hosted the DSTV Diski Challenge between Amazulu and Sekhukhune at Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark on Saturday.

It was a weekend of football with Sedibeng soccer spectators being spoiled with choice. The same venue, later on the day, hosted the Motsepe Foundation Championship fixture between Marumo Gallants against Milford.

Back to the Amazulu and United game, Sekhukhune United beat the young Amazulu side 3-2. It was an exciting game to watch with both sides playing mouthwatering football much to the delight of their supporters. Sekhukhune United supporters were vocal in the stands cheering their team forward. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, despite being on the losing side, Amazulu Coach, Andile Cele was full of compliments for his young team.

Cele was impressed with his team’s arrogance in playing from the back, even under pressure.

“They are a young team and they learned the hard way. Most of them are 17-years-old but they had no fear when on the ball. I was really happy with how they played even though we started the game on the back foot.”

“Look after 15 to 20 minutes we started playing our normal game because I told them they must not be afraid to make mistakes. This is the best way they can grow as players. But I’m happy with our overall performance. There are just smaller things that we need to work on with them”, said Cele, who played for Orlando Pirates during his heyday.

His counterpart, Paul Masehe was also excited with three points. He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that they came for three points and they got them.

“The plan was to take the game to them because they are such a good team when they are on the ball. We apply high pressure to force them to make mistakes on their own half”, he said.
