MTN8 Media Trophy Tour in the Vaal

The tour is part of the MTN8 to mobilise soccer fans across Gauteng.

SEDIBENG.- The MTN 8 Media Trophy Tour visited Sedibeng (Vaal) with MooiVaal Media hosting the crew and MTN 8 ambassadors, Lucky Lekgwathi and Josta Dladla on Wednesday.

The two former football greats played for Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs respectively during their playing days. The tour is part of the MTN8 to mobilise soccer fans across Gauteng to come in big numbers to support their respective teams this weekend.

The second leg semi-finals will take place with Mamelodi Sundowns welcoming Kaizer Chiefs at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria on Saturday. The two sides played to a 1-1 draw in the first leg semi-finals at FNB Stadium. Orlando Pirates will be at home against Stellenbosch on Sunday, Pirates come into this game with a 2-1 lead.

Sundowns need only a draw to proceed to the finals with an away goal rule, however, Chiefs are expected to come to the game with their guns blazing. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, during the visit to Mooi Vaal Media offices on Wednesday, the two legends wished that their former teams could come to meet in the final as it has been a while since Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have played against each other in the finals of any PSL cup competition.

The last time Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates played in the official cup final was in 2014.

Lekgwathi has all the reason to be confident with his former club doing well in the domestic league this season. Last season Pirates won both the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup and Lekgwathi believes that this season belongs to Pirates. On the other hand, Dladla admitted to Sedibeng Ster Sport that his former club, Kaizer Chiefs have to dig deeper to beat Mamelodi Sundowns tomorrow, Saturday.

“It is not going to be easy for Chiefs to beat Sundown but if they play the way they played in the first leg, I have no doubt that they will beat Sundowns on Saturday. It will be nice to see the final between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates after a while and this will bring back those memories,” said Dladla.

His sentiments were echoed by Lekgwathi who agreed with Dladla that the final between Chiefs and Pirates would bring back a lot of memories.

“We all know that the majority of soccer fans are from these two teams and it will be nice to see them in the final after a while. I have no doubt that Pirates, is already in the final because of a 2-1 lead in the first leg semi-final,” said Lekgwathi.
