BOIPATONG. – A 37-year-old Boipatong woman has been arrested after allegedly confessing to having stabbed and killed her husband, 44-year-old Nhlanhla Zwezwe who was an employee of the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM).
Zwezwe’s lifeless body was discovered by a passerby at the Boipatong testing grounds on Monday morning, 18 September. The passerby immediately notified the police.
Police Spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda, confirms that Boipatong police attended the scene and on arrival found the half-naked lifeless body of an African male with multiple stab wounds.
Initially, the woman said she had last seen her husband on Sunday afternoon, adding that he did not come back home.
On Tuesday afternoon, a close friend who wanted to be kept anonymous alerted Sedibeng Ster that she received a strange call from Zwezwe’s wife Tuesday afternoon.
“She called and said that I must come to her house as there is something she wants to tell me. I told her that I had to go run errands but later went to her house. When I arrived, she confessed to having killed her husband.
“I told her that I would not be keeping her secret and urged her to tell her kids immediately, which she did. We then called the police.”
It is reported that when the police arrived, the woman further alerted them of where she had disposed of her husband’s clothes.
When Sedibeng Ster arrived at the scene on Tuesday afternoon, police were searching for the clothes of the deceased in a field just a few meters away from the woman’s home.
This happened while shocked members of the community watched in disbelief.
A man who only introduced himself as Skop, told Sedibeng Ster that the deceased was his friend as they worked together for a long time.
“We are shocked by what has happened. The deceased and his wife used to live with me and they used to fight a lot. I am saddened by how he died,” he said.
Funda confirms that a suspect was arrested and charged with murder.
“The suspect was arrested and detained at Boipatong SAPS holding cells. She will soon make an appearance at the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court.”
