Sasolburg man survives brutal assault allegedly by his lover’s brothers

What began as a minor dispute between a couple quickly spiraled out of control, resulting in a harrowing ordeal for Motsamai.

SASOLBURG – A seemingly ordinary disagreement between a couple took a horrific turn when 27-year-old Sibusiso Motsamai found himself in a life-threatening situation.

The incident unfolded on Saturday, September 9 when Motsamai and his girlfriend, whose identity is being protected, had a heated argument in their Sasolburg home.

According to Motsamai, the disagreement escalated when his girlfriend attempted to harm him with scalding hot water.

In an attempt to defend himself, Motsamai accidentally knocked over the bucket, causing the boiling water to spill onto his girlfriend.

In the aftermath of this unfortunate incident, Motsamai’s girlfriend reportedly called her brother, who wasted no time in arriving at the scene with a group of individuals in a minibus.

Shockingly, they forcibly entered the couple’s residence, launching a brutal assault on Motsamai.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Motsamai shared his terrifying experience.

“I had just come back from work when I found my partner hanging around with a friend. On my arrival, we had a minor fight which quickly escalated. When the disagreement continued, she attempted to pour boiling water on me. As I blocked the bucket, the water spilled on her,” he said.

What transpired following the incident, was a harrowing moment faced with death.

“She called her family and reported the incident like I was trying to kill her. She told her mother how she wanted them [her brothers] to kill me when they arrived. When the men arrived at our place, they broke entry and started beating me without asking what had happened. Her [the partner] and her mother, watched as the man beat me to a pulp. I pushed my way out and tried to flee, but I lacked energy and the man management to stop me,” he added.

Motsamai said the men commanded him to enter the taxi parked at the gate.

“They told me that they going to kill me and dump my body somewhere no one will find me. Just those words, breathed life into my jaded soul, and that’s when I managed to escape the angry mob. Had I not hidden in my neighbor’s house, I should be dead by now,” he said.

The visibility sobbing shaken man said he wanted justice for what the mob did to him.

“When you love someone, you can’t watch him getting killed. What she did, proved to me that the woman doesn’t love me. I am putting the matter on the police, justice should prevail,” he said.

Sasolburg police spokeswoman Sergeant Josephine Rani said their station doesn’t have the provided case number for the purpose of a media inquiry.
