Hundreds heed call for Midvaal’s farmer’s training

Mokete Motsamai, Development and Planning MMC, expressed his excitement about the partnership with Amakhono Farming School.

MEYERTON. – Hundreds of residents from various areas within the Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) heeded the call to attend training for up-and-coming farmers facilitated by the Amakhono Farming School at the Meyerton Town Hall recently.

The venue was packed with many curious minds who wanted to learn more and tap into the world of farming.

The training consisted of two parts: an information session where attendees received information and a question-and-answer session where they had the opportunity to learn more.

Speaking on the day, Teboho Ramalepe, Assistant Director for Local Economic Development (LED), said: “Today’s chicken farming training session is the result of a partnership between the Midvaal Local Municipality and Amakhono Farming School.

“From this training session, we hope that farmers will be able to use the knowledge they received to create economic opportunities for themselves. The training specifically focused on chicken farming.

“We are promoting entrepreneurship, and our aim is for the farmers to create jobs for others so that the local economy can grow.

Angelique du Plessis, Director of Amakhono, says: “Our objective is to empower farmers. We provide farmers with training to ensure that they can return home and farm, creating sustainability and economic opportunities.

“We have approximately 150 people attending the short course, where we are teaching our farmers the basics of bio-security and how to protect their farms and staff. We are also educating them about the various types of chickens and how to farm them.”
