Anti-gangsterism schools event a success

The main purpose of the event was to inform the children about the different forms of abuse that they might encounter as they grow up.

EVATON. – The Alpha Trauma Centre hosted an anti-gangsterism event at the Evaton West Primary School in Evaton last Thursday.

The main purpose of the event was to inform the children about the different forms of abuse that they might encounter as they grow up, to teach them ways of preventing and protecting themselves against such, also it was meant to help motivate them to report any form of crime.

Representatives from different organizations such as the Alpha Trauma Centre itself, the South African Police Services (SAPS), Department of Social Development (DSD), Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Safety, Department of Correctional Services (DCS) and People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA) attended the event and gave insight into their different programs.

Topics such as bullying, abuse, rape, and many others that involve children were also thoroughly discussed.

The DCS came to the event with practical examples in the form of two boys who relayed their stories of drug use and gangsterism, advising the learning also about those hardships of imprisonment.

Alpha Trauma Centre representatives spoke about their service under crime prevention as they go to schools and do awareness campaigns to find children who are at risk and help them.

The Department of Education appreciated the initiative and thanked all the different stakeholders involved.
