Jubilation as dozens receive title deeds in Savanna city, De Deur.

DE DEUR – Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Urban Planning, and CoGTA Lebogang Maile handed over 300 title deeds to beneficiaries at Savanna City, on Friday, August 18.

Maile said the batch of deeds issued in the Midvaal Local Municipality last week marked a high number of over 10254 title deeds issued in Sedibeng since 2016.

The MEC was accompanied by the MMC of Housing in the municipality, Mokete Motsamai, and the ward Councillor.

“Today we handed over Title Deeds in Savanna City Extension 4, Midvaal Local Municipality, alongside MMCs of Housing and the Ward Cllr. The gesture formed part of the commitments made by the Gauteng Provincial Government to protect the lives of Older Persons in the province,” said Maile.

“The handover of Title Deeds is paired with an information sharing session with the community on how to protect their title deeds, registration of indigency with the municipality,” he said.

Jubilation and tears of joy were the order of the day for many recipients.

Hundreds of recipients who packed a marquee tent in the area’s sports grounds were flanked by Savanna city residents who bared witness to the life changing event.

Song and dance played out as names of recipients were called out, while other title deed recipients shed a tear after receiving what they termed ‘life changing piece of paper’.

Thokozile Selepe one of the recipients said she was happy to finally have a house that belongs to her.

“I had lost faith that one day I will be a home owner. Today marks a new life for me and my family as I received my title deed. This means now I officially have a place called home,” she said.

“I wish to thank the government for doing right by many of us. We applied for hours long time ago and today we are title deed holders. Hope this gesture won’t happen only to us, but to many other people who have registered for houses as far back as 1994,” she added.
