Jack Malindi takes helm as mayor of Metsimaholo

Meet the new mayor of Metsimaholo Local Municipality, Councillor Jack Malindi!

SASOLBURG – The Metsimaholo Local Municipality has welcomed a new leader into its fold.

Jack Malindi, a member of the African Independent Congress (AIC), has been appointed as the mayor following the recent ousting of Democratic Alliance’s Jeff Zwane.

The appointment, which marks a key moment in the region’s political landscape, emerged during a special council sitting held on Wednesday, August 16 at the Harry Gwala Multipurpose Centre in Zamdela.

The air was thick with expectation as representatives from all political parties, who hold a stake in the municipality, convened to witness this historic transition of power.

Malindi’s election to the esteemed position was a common decision, as he was nominated unopposed by the African Transformative Movement (ATM), a gesture that was wholeheartedly endorsed by the African National Congress (ANC).

The council chamber was a scene of unity and cooperation, symbolic of the ideals that Malindi has long championed in his political career. The consensus reached across party lines stands as a testament to the belief in his ability to lead and steer Metsimaholo into a new era of progress and development.

In a response to Sedibeng Ster, the DA Free State Provincial Leader, and MPL, Dr. Roy Jankielsohn, has confirmed that the DA is seeking legal advice on the legality of the council meeting that resulted in Zwane’s removal.

“Questions regarding the legitimacy and procedures of the meeting have arisen, and the DA intends to ensure that all protocols were followed correctly,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Council, Lucas Fisher welcomed Phemelo Oratile Tabile from Democratic Alliance.

Tabile was sworn in as a PR Councillor of the municipality.
