Sasol Techno X inspires South Africa’s future innovators and leaders

More than 22 000 learners will be hosted throughout the week and exposed to almost 50 STEM exhibitors.

SASOLBURG – Sasol has once again lit the path toward the future by reviving its much-anticipated Sasol-Techno X career expo.

Emerging from the shadows of the Covid-19 pandemic, the event marked a pivotal moment as pupils from various schools across the region graced the country’s largest science, and technology exhibition at Boiketlong community hall in Sasolburg.

On Tuesday, August 15, a week-long expo was launched with a grand opening graced by different dignitaries from government officials, and the private sector amongst many more.

This year’s exhibition marks the 21st career expo to be held by the petroleum firm under the theme “future shapers – discover your passion, shape your future,”.

More than 22 000 learners will be hosted throughout the week and exposed to almost 50 STEM exhibitors.

The exhibition, a captivating wall-hanging of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Innovation (STEAMI), offered an unparalleled glimpse into the possibilities that await South Africa’s next generation of trailblazers.

During this interactive experience, visitors were immersed in tours, talks, displays, and hands-on activities and workshops that demonstrate the future of science and the endless possibilities of technology.

Mashudu Ndou, Vice President of Community Affairs for Secunda Operations said, “Sasol is a significant investor in science and technology and by hosting this event, we want to inspire the future generation of innovators and entrepreneurs who will uplift our country and the economy through technology.

Addressing the gathered crowds during the launch Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Buti Manamela said the aim is to instill in young individuals the realization that they can be the catalysts for change and shape the world through limitless possibilities.

“I hope many other state-owned and private entities will also invest their time and resources and make sure we have many such expos. It’s projects like such as these that have an impact on the outcomes of our matric,” he said.

Free State MEC of Education Makalo Mohale also emphasized the importance of expos such as these in cultivating a mind of innovation and entrepreneurship.

“We want to ensure that our people don’t live on handouts. Such expos will help our people by creating opportunities for them for self-sufficiency. Our focus is about creating employers, not employees, and STEAMI will make that a dream come true.” he said.
