Plumbers discover foetus while unblocking giant pipes in Vanderbijlpark

"I thought it was a doll," says unnamed man who discovered the foetus in Vanderbijlpark blocked sewer pipes.

VANDERBIJLPARK – A group of plumbers who have been working in Vanderbijlpark for two weeks now, were in for a shock when they discovered a foetus on Thursday morning, August 10.

While the workmen did their normal work routine in replacing dilapidated sewer pipes near a tyre shop at Corner FW Beyers and J W Mushet Street, they were left fazed.

This is after one of the plumbers who didn’t want to be named, went down the giant sewer pipes to try and unblock it.

While moving and pulling debris, he saw a head and thought it was a doll. As he continued to unblock, the foetus was revealed.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, the plumber who pleaded to remain anonymous said: “We’ve been working here for weeks now. Today I decided to go inside the big pipes to try and unblock them. While I used the rods to unblock, I saw what looked like a doll.”

“I continued to pull until I pulled the subject with my hands. The sliminess made me realize it was a baby. I called for help, and we then put the foetus inside a pack of Doritos to keep it covered,” he said.

The man said he was traumatized and wished the person who dumped the foetus be found.

“Throwing such a small and innocent soul is inhumane, and unheard of. I don’t think I will sleep tonight after that gruesome discovery,” he said.

Vanderbijlpark police spokesperson Seargent Gertrude Makhale confirmed the discovery.

“I can confirm that SAPS in Vanderbijlpark is investigating a case of concealment of birth. We are also urging the community to assist us to locate the person who might have done such a gruesome act. If there are family members who may know of someone who was pregnant and suspect that now she isn’t, they can report to us,” she said.
