Official launch of upgraded Vereeniging taxi rank postponed

The Intermodal Facility boasts various modes of transportation. In addition to taxis, the facility will incorporate retail space, long-distance buses, and a train station.

VEREENIGING. – The official opening of Phase 1 of the Vereeniging Intermodal Facility by MEC for Transport and Logistics in Gauteng, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela has been postponed until further notice.

The announcement was made by the Department of Roads and Transport on  Sunday evening.

The development of the Vereeniging Intermodal facility is aimed at providing taxi operators and commuters with a fit-for-purpose facility that will also stimulate the economy of the town.

The Intermodal Facility boasts various modes of transportation. In addition to taxis, the facility will incorporate retail space, long-distance buses, and a train station.

Phase 1 of the project commenced on 08 December 2022 and consisted of refurbishing the existing taxi rank to include new hawker stalls, loading shelters, and ablution facilities.
The refurbishment also included undertaking electrical works, and revamping surface drainage systems and access ways.

Speaking during a recent visit, Diale-Tlabela said that Phase one of the project involves the facelift of the temporary taxi rank.

“The completion of Phase 1 of the facility forms part of the Department’s commitment to fast-track delivery of critical transport infrastructure projects. It also serves in restoring and growing the economy, providing access to economic and much-needed job opportunities.”
