Pensioner still in shock after daylight robbery by armed men

The police urge members of the community to be vigilant after a pensioner was robbed in daylight recently.

VAAL-TRIANGLE. – A 65-year-old pensioner residing in the Vaal Triangle is still in shock after he was ambushed by unknown armed men recently. The incident happened just after noon.

It is alleged that the men came to the pensioner’s house under the pretense that they were looking for a stolen TV that had been sold to him.

The pensioner reports that he heard people calling from outside his yard, and when he went to inspect, he saw five unknown men outside.

“One of them was being assaulted by the other four men who claimed that he had stolen their plasma tv and sold it to me. They asked that I open the gate for them so that they check if there is a stolen tv in the house.

“I told them that there is no such thing because I don’t buy stolen goods. We all went inside the house as I wanted to prove that there is no stolen TV in the house. They entered the house and instructed me to interrogate the suspect.

“As I was getting ready to do that, they held me and tied my hands and feet. They dragged me to the bedroom where they seized cell phones, money, and bank cards. They demanded that I give them the correct pin and I did.

“The men also took some of the items in the house and subsequently fled I did not see what they took as I was facing away from them the whole time,” he said.  Moments later, it went quiet.

“I was able to free myself and noticed that I was all alone in the house. This has left me in complete shock as it happened very early in the afternoon. I consider myself lucky that I’m still alive,” he said.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Gertrude Makhale confirmed that a house robbery case docket is open for investigation.

“The SAPS is urging the community to be vigilant of their surroundings and ensure that they have their doors and security doors locked at all times. It is further advised to report any loitering of people and suspicious vehicles.”
