Sedibeng cluster police receive long service medals

24 police officers stationed in Sedibeng District were honoured for their long-service during a medal parade on Monday.

VANDERBIJLPARK – Working as a police officer in South Africa is one of the most dangerous professions, ranking as number three.

And reaching more than 20 years in the service always calls for celebration on any given day.

For 24 police officers working in different police stations in the Sedibeng Cluster, Monday, July 24, was a day for their celebration as they were recognized and honored during a medal parade held at Isak Steyl, Vanderbijlpark.

The officers, who included detective officers dressed in their civilian attire and operational staff in their ceremonial uniform, couldn’t wait to receive their respective much-anticipated medals.

Starting the day with a parade performed by scores of police band members, the stadium was abuzz with drums and drizzles before the Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Nikiwe Sefatsa bestowed medals to the deserving officers.

With their families filing some of the grass stands inside the stadium, smiles and jubilation was the order of the day.

Addressing the gathered officers in their blue uniform during her keynote address, Sefatsa said honored officers displayed an irreproachable character and exemplary conduct.

“You have run the race, and you still are running. Today SAPS recognizes your exceptional devotion to duty and your faithful service. Some have left us for greener pastures, some have left us unceremoniously due to their actions, and some left in the morning and never got the chance to bid farewell, yet you all are still here, by the grace. It is against this that SAPS sees it fit year after year to honour you,” she said.

Working for twenty years, there is a lot of things you come across in life that God will always provide to do the best for your community. It’s an awesome feeling having to serve for so much. I will continue serving my country with pride.”
