Black and white, young and old join hands to cleanup Vaal

"I was overwhelmed by the support we received from the members of the communities especially the companies and businesses."

VANDERBIJLPARK.- The #CleanUp Vaal campaign was launched in style when community members, university students, school learners, soccer clubs, companies, businesses, white and black, young and old took the initiative to clean the Vanderbijlpark CDB on Saturday.

This initiative was started by the Walking In Victory Ministries in conjunction with NWU Vaal and VUT to clean up the Vaal area. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Tshepang Mosokwene who was the force behind this initiative said its aim was to bring the community together, black and white, young and old, boys and girls to take an initiative to keep their surroundings clean.

She told Sedibeng Ster that this will be an ongoing initiative to take responsibility to clean up the Vaal area. Mosokwene described this initiative as a great success seeing both black and white walking in the Vanderbijlpark streets to clean up the area.

She believes that these kinds of initiatives should not only be the responsibility of the government or political parties. However, it was not only about cleaning up the town but also giving bread to the street kids, the homeless, and street vendors that they came across on the streets.

“We want to challenge the community collectively to come together and clean up their surroundings. If all the communities can do this, we will live in a clean environment. I was overwhelmed by the support we received from the members of the communities especially the companies and businesses that made this possible.

“Cleaning plays a critical fundamental role in the existence and survival of people. It directly affects our overall well-being, physical and mental health. This initiative aims to ignite hope and restore dignity to our environment to take action with different stakeholders of the Vaal community.

“The heart of this campaign is to challenge other Vaal communities to clean their surroundings through collective efforts. We need well-coordinated and sustained efforts and environment of all actors, including universities, schools and businesses, community-based organizations, and individuals,” said Mosokwene, who is a former NWU Vaal student.
