Banyana anticipate a tough game against Argentina

“We came in this game fully aware of their strength and our game plan worked in our advantage."

SEDIBENG.- Banyana Banyana must be ready for another tough opponent when they face Argentina in their second game of Group G on Friday.

South Africa started their Women’s World Cup campaign on the back foot when they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Sweden in the opening game on Sunday morning.

Despite the defeat, Banyana Banyana put up a brave fight.

It was Banyana Banyana who broke the deadlock in the second half courtesy of a Hilda Magaia goal who also suffered an injured after she scored. She was forced to be substituted and reports are that she will miss the game against Argentina on Friday.

Speaking after the game, Banyana Banyana Coach Desiree Ellis was full of praise for her charges despite the 2-1 defeat. In the media conference after the game, Ellis said they were unfortunate to lose the game against Sweden. She told the journalists that they came into this game with a game plan and it worked to their advantage to catch Sweden on a counterattack.

“We came in this game fully aware of their strength and our game plan worked to our advantage which led to our goal. Unfortunately, we concede a goal that changed everything. But we will put this result behind us because we are up against another tough opponent on Friday. However, we will be ready for Argentina regardless of these results. I just wish we had proper preparations,” she said.
