SEDIBENG.- “It was a road worth traveling for the girls.”
These were the words of Sedibeng Netball Federation President, Fakazile Nkitseng who spoke to Sedibeng Ster Sport after the team’s return from the Telkom National Championships, which concluded over the weekend in Cape Town.
The Sedibeng U/19 Netball Team finished in 11th position in the B Group. Nkitseng expressed pride in the girls’ performance throughout the tournament. According to Nkitseng, she was impressed by the individual performances of the players, with one of the Sedibeng Netball Team members selected for national team trials. Despite finishing in 11th position, Nkitseng stated that the team returned home with their heads held high, as they gave their all on the field against the country’s best netball teams.
“Those who have been there before will tell you that the level of competition is extremely high. I must say, I’m very proud of our girls because they gave their all on the netball court. It is not surprising to see one of our players selected for national team trials, given the effort put in by each player on the field. I’m proud of the entire team for their performance throughout the tournament. However, I must acknowledge the challenges we faced in taking the team to Cape Town without any official sponsors.”
“We were competing against teams that were well-supported in terms of sponsorship. I would like to express my gratitude to Mrs Moonirah Ramathula from Futballing Girls for sponsoring our team and enabling us to appear as presentable as the other teams at the tournament. I would also like to thank the parents and schools for their contributions to the team. Without their support, I don’t think we could have managed to travel to Cape Town and participate in this tournament,” said Nkitseng.
